When it may be considered
Meniscus tears, loose bodies and other joint conditions may be treated arthroscopically. An abnormal MRI finding alone is not an indication for surgery.

Making the decision
Symptoms, physical examination, imaging and nonsurgical alternatives all inform the decision. Preserving joint structures is an important part of planning.

Recovery and follow-up
Crutches, weight-bearing and return to activities depend on the procedure. A meniscus repair may require different precautions from other arthroscopic treatments.
